Below are our favorite restaurants that are not part of big chains. Their hours are limited. We listed the hours in the descriptions. Because most of these are small "mom and pop" establishments. they are closed from time to time for a family vacation.
Cheap $ Eats
Noodle House, 109 N Court St, near the Square - Thai/Laotian. Looks like a dive, but the food is fresh, well prepared. Excellent value. Open lunch, Mon-Fri and dinner, Mon/Tue.
Gupta's Vegetarian - 51 N. Court St on the Square. Open lunch only, Mon-Fri.
Taco Dreams - 400 N 2nd St in the Breadtopia Bldg. Open breakfast and lunch, Mon-Fri, Also in the same building, Bake House serves Pizza Mon, Wed and Fri nights.
Green Gourmet - 117 E. Broadway. Indian Food Buffet. Open lunch only, Mon, Wed and Thurs, plus brunch on Sundays.
Hy-Vee Grocery Store & Cafe - 1300 W Burlington Ave. Open breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day, and also has a deli where you can buy made-to-order sandwiches, sushi, and other foods.
Thai Deli - 120 W Broadway. Open lunch only, Mon - Sat.

El Paso Tex Mex - 53 E. Broadway on the Square. Mexican, with full bar. Open lunch and dinner daily.
India Cafe - 50 W. Burlington Ave, on the Square. Curently closed
Aranda's Mexican - 203 West Broadway, across from Post Office. Mexican, with full bar. Open lunch and dinner, Mon-Sat.
Myra's Cafe - 112 N Main St, just North of the Square. Excellent Indian food with a flair. Open lunch only, Wed - Sun.
Hungry Camel - 121 W. Broadway Ave, behind the old movie theatre. Mediterranean falafels, shawarmas and salads. Open lunch only, Wed, Fri and Sat. Best to call and order ahead because they can be very busy.
Everybody's Cafe - 501 N 2nd St. in the back of Everybody's Grocery. Open breakfast and lunch, Mon-Fri.
Pho Bistro - 110 W. Burlington Ave. - Thai/Japanese. Open lunch and dinner, Mon - Sat.
Istanbul Diner - - 50 S 2nd St - Middle Eastern. Open breakfast, lunch and dinner, Tuesday - Saturday, Breakfast and lunch only on Sunday,

Lunchbox - 403 N 4th St. Exceptional salads, sandwiches and wraps. Open lunch only, Mon-Fri.
Broth Lab Restaurant and Bar- 102 N 2nd St. Exceptional ramen and wraps. Open dinner only, Tues - Sat.
Cafe Dodici - 122 S Iowa Ave in Washington, IA (about 30-minute drive from Fairfield). Exceptional Italian restaurant with full bar. If you want a nice meal, it's worth the drive. Open lunch and dinner, Wed - Sat, plus brunch Sundays.
Shokai Sushi - 51 N 2nd St - Japanese food, with full bar. Open lunch and dinner, Tues - Fri. Dinner only, Sat.
